meet the latest messaging standard :the rise of rcs messaging

" the rise of rcs messaging"

Examples of RCS Messaging

The while rise of SMS and MMS seems to have reached unprecedented levels, it seem positively archaic and ols fashioned in today's with rise of multiple devices and data data based messaging platforms, and the industry  is all set to move over to the latest communication standards, called  Rich Communications Services (RCS) standard.

So what exactly is RCS ? For starters,RCS stands for Rich Communication services or rich communication protocol and is a communication protocol between mobile-telephone carriers and between phone and carrier, aiming at replacing SMS messages with a text-message system that is more rich, provide phonebook polling (for service discovery), and transmit in-call multimedia.

RCS is part of the new Advanced Messaging standard designed to greatly improve messaging functionality that comes installed on phones by default. Along with text messages, RCS will also allow for higher quality picture messaging up to 10MB in size, group chats, location sharing, and even video calls , sound clips by default.

The service also appears to support read receipts and typing indicators that you’re probably already familiar with from other services. It is marketed under the names RCS, Advanced Messaging, Advanced Communications, joyn, Jio4GVoice and Message+.

However, to send and receive Rich Communications Services messages, both parties much be using a compatible messaging app and network, and support is not universal, yet. Fortunately, the system is designed to fall back to SMS or MMS when the recipient doesn’t support RCS.

In theory though , the introduction of RCS will avoid the hassle of having to agree to a third party platform for group or video chat, as the service is tied to your mobile number and future phone owners will have these features out of the box.

According to GSMA PR, Rich Communication Services (RCS) carriers from around the globe supporting the RCS standard include AT&T, Bell Mobility, Bharti Airtel, Deutsche Telekom, Jio, KPN, KT Corporation, LG U+), Orange, Orascom Telecom, Rogers Communications, SFR, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefónica, TeliaSonera, Telus, Verizon and Vodafone. Universal Profile is currently backed by 60 supporters:
